Funny story from a few years ago, when I was in the hospital ER overnight.

I was laying on the stretcher trying to get some rest after a rather draining day, when suddenly I was knocked out of my slumber by the old woman next to be wailing about how she's a soldier in the army of god and how she's going to destroy and kill all the non-beliievers in the name of the lord.  Being the person I am, I told her to put down the crackpipe and go back to sleep.  Well, that didn't quite go over as well as I would have hoped, and she just started to make more threats until one of the nurses decided to sedate her.

Now, I know she was a psych patient (hard to miss the fact she was strapped to the bed), but given the way some of the fundies are these days...  Never know, some of them truely believe this.

... and not give IT advice.

This little gem came across on one of the mailing lists I participate in.

I hate to be arrogant and condescending, but this is one of the many reasons why people need to understand what they are talking about before opening their big mouths.  Just because you are an electrical engineer, does not mean you know anything about how IT, ethernet, wifi, or computers in general work.

Wifi is not just an antenna bolted on to the end of an ethernet cable - there is hardware and software involved in the conversion of one transmission medium to another.  It doesn't matter if the source signal is degraded - packets will get retransmitted, latency will increase, but the signal that comes from the WiFi will be however good of output the radio and antenna can manage.

I saw this great story on OCRegister about a dying girl's last wish to see the movie Up.  A Pixar employee flew out the very next day with a DVD of the movie and gift basket of various items dealing with the movie.  Unfortunately, the girl lost her battle with cancer, and died that night.

I meant to post this a week or two ago, but forgot to.  This is an example of what happens when you use a third party battery that hasn't been properly tested with a 5th gen iPod:

The company had the nerve to tell is those charred and burned components were caused by static electricity.  Yeah right - static doesn't make resistors explode like that.
