What is patriotism?

Patriotism is standing up for your rights in the face of others who seek to deny you the rights they take for granted.

Patriotism is knowing full well that you will face hate, ridicule, and bigotry, and still being who you are with no compromises.

Patriotism is protesting the laws and actions of this government when they are based on the demands of a few small loud mouth religious fundamentalist zealots.

Patriotism is electing a president who isn't afraid to show he is a human being, and is willing to admit mistakes.

Patriotism is being an active participant in the world, and not the loud mouth bully that Bush made us out to be for the past 8 years.

Well, there is a bunch of stuff to talk about, so let me get right to it.

The AHBL is on hold until November.
We've been considering this for a while, and finally decided it's time to revamp and redesign both the website and the database backend. This is going to take a while, but once it's done, we should have most things automated. Sept. 1st, we plan to clean out the existing AHBL database until the site comes back online. We are not shutting down, nor are we stopping our spam fighting efforts.

ClamAV/SOSDG is on hold until November.
I just don't have the time to work on the Windows builds of ClamAV for now.

I am moving.
Yes, you heard it right! I am moving. I can't disclose where I am moving to yet, but unfortunately I need to leave the NYC metro area for personal reasons.

So begins my first flight in... a good 15 years. I'm leaving from LGA in NY to BOI, but first I have to make a stop in DEN. I had some time to pull out the laptop and post online, which I am thankful for. So far, so good - got through security with no problems.

Belated Birthday Present: Seeing Cirque Dreams on Broadway

I got my belated birthday present from Lady Arielle last night - we went to see Cirque Dreams: Jungle Fantasy at the Broadway Theatre. It was an enjoyable experience, highly recommended if you are in NYC and want to see a show.

Nikki had a boy on the 29th of Jan - 9lbs, 1oz. We talked on the phone last night for a while - I could hear him making the cutest noises in the background! For me, this is such a big thing, because I was named the godmother. I will never be able to have a child on my own, so this is about as close as I can get currently.

Disturbing comments by the right about 'correcting' homosexuality

So, I've been sitting on this for a few weeks now, unsure how to respond exactly.

It bugs the crap out of me.

For some time now, scientists have been looking for a genetic or hormonal cause of sexual orientation. Thus far, no "gay gene" has been found -- at least not in terms of incontrovertible and accepted science. Yet, it is now claimed that a growing body of evidence indicates that biological factors may at least contribute to sexual orientation.

Many of us have figured this out a long time ago without the need of Doctors to tell us. Maybe because we have a deeper understanding of ourselves then most straight people... I know I personally have always believed that gender and sexuality are separate things, and determined at birth. Hence why I am a Transgendered Lesbian.

Of course, not everyone feels this way, and its entirely possible that the theory is wrong.

What makes the sheep "sexual partner preference testing" research so interesting is that the same scientists who are documenting the rather surprising sexual behaviors of male sheep think they can also change the sexual orientation of the animals. In other words, finding a biological causation for homosexuality may also lead to the discovery of a "cure" for the same phenomenon.

Hasn't this already been tried and failed enough times that we'd be tired of thinking this way? Human beings are human beings, not meant to be messed with in the manner they are describing. You'll see why I am horrified at the thought of the kind of 'cure' he's describing.

Homosexual activists have claimed that sexual orientation cannot be changed. What if a hormone patch during pregnancy will do the job?

I shudder every time I read that. They are advocating using hormone treatments to affect the fetus. Does this guy realize, the running theory on why transgendered people exist is because of problems with fetus development relating to hormones. The mind and body develop differently because of over/non exposure to hormones, leading to individuals with the gender of the mind different from the physical gender.

So, in other words, this 'treatment' might create a whole new generation of babies with Gender Dysphoria in some sense. Oh yes, brilliant. Do what the drug companies managed to do unintentionally with their pills over the years.

The desperation and immaturity of Jonathan Meadows

So, for the past week or so I've got a new obsessive kook pestering me and the AHBL. Jonathan Meadows of KORE Inc (aka kore-net.com, linuxgod.net, sorbs.us, and possibly others) is hellbent of proving just how immature and lame he is.

The mess started with Matthew of SORBS called out Jonathan for violating copyright on images used on his revenge site, sorbs.us. It gradually escilated from there, and we ended up listing him under the AHBL's SOS rules for his behavior towards SORBS.

It took only a few days before he decided to go all out kooky. You can follow the saga on Usenet here. He's also decided to associate himself with the Not-So-FreeSpeechStore.

Oh, and Jonathan, nice try, blocking my IP from viewing your site. CoralCache and AOL web proxies are such great tools.
